Fellowships

Energize Colleges offers tailored support to campus sustainability and facilities teams through the placement of talented early career professionals in partnership with our Climate Corps program.

As recent graduates looking for a bridge to a career in the sustainability sector, Fellows work full-time for 10 to 12 months at a higher education institution where they gain real-world expertise while helping campuses with energy, climate change, and sustainability projects.

California State University, Dominguez Hills, Central Plant Energy Fellow

I'm incredibly grateful to have spent the past year on this campus supporting strategic energy projects and learning more about building operations than I ever could have imagined. I have met with many engineering firms, sales representatives, start-ups, energy companies, and other people that work in the energy industry. Networking with people has been an incredible part of this experience. There are so many positions that I would have not been exposed to otherwise. A key highlight of my Fellowship was hosting The Society of Heating, Air-Conditioning and Sanitary Engineers (SHASE) of Japan, ASHRAE’s counterpart. We guided them through the Central Plant tunnels and engaged in insightful discussions on the built environment. This was an amazing opportunity to see the importance of cross-cultural collaboration. I’ve grown immensely from this experience and feel lucky to have met the people who made it so meaningful."

Climate & Energy Fellow at the Pacific Northwest Center of Excellence for Clean Energy

The SEI fellowship has been a fantastic experience where I’ve gained practical knowledge, fresh perspectives, and a deeper understanding of meaningful climate and education work. The connections I’ve made and the strategies I’ve learned have boosted my confidence and shaped how I approach collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. I now feel well-prepared to take on new challenges and continue growing both personally and professionally."

Bakersfield College Energy and Sustainability Fellow

Through this position, I gained unexpected knowledge about HVAC, electrical, and ground systems, which enhanced my project work by providing a holistic view of campus energy. My favorite part about working on sustainability at the college level is devising creative solutions to problems and being trusted to do so.  After my fellowship, I aim to specialize in data analytics within education or climate, combining my passions for numbers, education, and sustainability."

California Renewable Energy Laboratory Sustainability Fellow

The Climate Corps program has a proven track record. Since 2021, 98% of Fellows have secured jobs or started higher education programs in sustainability within four months of completing their fellowship.
Paloma Lobos gained valuable experience creating and promoting projects focused on air quality monitoring during her fellowship with Kern Community College District’s California Renewable Energy Lab. After her fellowship, Paloma was hired by the lab as the Energy and Outreach Coordinator, allowing her to expand her fellowship project to involve local high schools and work directly with students to support their research projects and encourage them to explore the impacts of renewable energy on the community.
By assisting with outreach and student education projects as a fellow, I developed the scientific communication skills necessary to carry out and implement community education projects in my current role. For example, I was able to initiate a STEM and renewable energy-focused summer camp for 7th to 10th graders as an Energy and Outreach Coordinator due to the experience I gained working with students and community members as a Climate Corps Fellow."
